How to Schedule Reels on Instagram: In the App, in Meta Business Suite and With Other Tools

How to schedule Reels on Instagram in the app or Meta Business Suite: step-by-step instructions, current limits, and a weekly batching workflow that sticks.

8 min read

You can schedule Reels on Instagram right in the app: create a Reel, tap More options, turn on Schedule this reel, pick a date and time, and tap Schedule. According to Instagram's Help Center, you need a public account, and you can schedule up to 25 posts a day, up to 30 days in advance. Below are the exact steps, how to manage scheduled Reels, how Meta Business Suite and third-party tools compare, and a simple routine that makes scheduling actually save you time.

Why schedule Reels at all

For an expert or small business owner, the hard part of Instagram isn't pressing "Share". It's that posting depends on your mood and your calendar. Client sessions run late, a launch eats the week, and three days pass without a Reel.

Scheduling separates making content from publishing it. You create several Reels in one sitting, line them up, and the account keeps posting while you work. It also lets you publish when your audience is online, not just when you have a free minute. For how to find that window, see the best time to post Reels.

How to schedule Reels on Instagram in the app

These steps come from Instagram's Help Center article on scheduled posts and Reels, checked in October 2026.

Before you begin

  • Your account must be public.
  • You can schedule up to 25 posts a day, up to 30 days in advance.
  • Scheduled content keeps the privacy and audience settings you had at the moment you scheduled it.
  • Product tagging, collaborative posts, sponsored posts and fundraisers currently don't work with scheduled content.

Step by step

  1. Tap Create in the top left, or swipe right anywhere in Feed. Then tap Reel.
  2. Select your video and tap Next.
  3. Add your caption, effects or filters.
  4. Tap More options.
  5. Turn on Schedule this reel and choose the date and time.
  6. Tap Done.
  7. Tap Back.
  8. Tap Schedule.

Before step 4, finish everything that will appear in the published Reel: cover, on-screen text, post caption, hashtags, and captions if you use Instagram's auto captions. Our guide on how to add captions to Reels covers the options.

How to edit, reschedule or delete a scheduled Reel

Instagram gives you two places to manage scheduled content (source):

From your profile:

  1. Go to your profile and tap Menu in the top right.
  2. Under Your insights and tools, tap Scheduled content.
  3. Tap Options next to the Reel.
  4. Choose Delete, Edit post, Reschedule or Share now.

From the Create screen:

  1. Tap Create, then Reel.
  2. Tap Scheduled to see what's queued.
  3. Select the Reel, tap Options, then choose the action you need.

How to schedule Reels in Meta Business Suite

Meta Business Suite is Meta's free tool for managing Facebook and Instagram in one place, on desktop and in its mobile app. Meta describes it as a place to create, schedule and manage Facebook and Instagram content, including reels, and to see scheduled content in a calendar view.

What you need:

  • A business portfolio (Meta's container for your Facebook Page, Instagram account and other assets). Meta's help page explains how to create one.
  • Your Instagram account connected to that portfolio.

The general flow: open Meta Business Suite, start creating a reel, choose the Instagram account (and Facebook Page, if you want both), upload the video, add the caption, then pick a date and time instead of publishing right away. Scheduled items appear in the calendar, where you can see the whole week or month at a glance.

Meta Business Suite is a good fit if you already run a Facebook Page, prefer working on a computer, or want to see your schedule as a calendar rather than a list. Meta changes button names and menus often, so if a label differs from what you see, follow the "schedule" option in the publishing flow.

Scheduling with third-party tools

Many social media tools can publish Reels on your behalf. They do it through Meta's official Instagram content publishing API, which matters for two reasons:

  • The API works with Instagram professional accounts. If a tool asks you to switch to a business or creator account, that's why.
  • There are rate limits. Meta's developer documentation states that accounts are limited to 100 API-published posts within a 24-hour moving period. That's far above what an expert account needs, but it explains why tools cap bulk publishing.

When you choose a tool, check:

  • Does it publish automatically, or only send you a reminder to post manually?
  • Can it publish Reels specifically, not just photos?
  • What happens if publishing fails: do you get notified?
  • Does it connect through Meta's official login, rather than asking for your Instagram password?

The last point matters. You should never have to hand your password to a scheduling service.

All three solve the same problem: publishing at the right time. None of them solves the bigger one, which is having Reels ready to schedule in the first place.

A weekly scheduling routine that works

Scheduling only saves time if you batch. Here's a routine we recommend for experts who post a few Reels a week:

  1. Pick a fixed slot. One block of time a week, for example Monday morning. Treat it like a client appointment.
  2. Choose topics for the week. Pull from your content pillars and from what's working in your niche. Our list of Instagram Reels ideas helps if you're stuck.
  3. Write all scripts in one go. Short, spoken sentences, one idea per Reel.
  4. Record and edit together. Same lighting, same setup, one session.
  5. Schedule the whole week. Spread Reels across days rather than stacking them. For frequency, see how often to post Reels.
  6. Leave one slot open. Keep room for something timely, like a question from a client or a trend in your niche.
  7. Review results next week. Check which Reels held attention, and feed that into the next batch.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Scheduling and forgetting. Comments in the first hour after a Reel goes live are a chance to start conversations. Plan to be around when your Reels publish, at least sometimes.
  • Scheduling time-sensitive content too far ahead. If a Reel refers to "this week" or a current event, it can age badly in 30 days.
  • Ignoring incompatible features. If you plan a collab post or product tags, publish that Reel manually, since Instagram doesn't support those features in scheduled content.
  • Never checking the queue. Look at your scheduled content once a week to make sure nothing is outdated.

When the bottleneck isn't scheduling

If you've set up scheduling and still post rarely, the problem is usually production: ideas, scripts and filming take hours. That's the part WowFlō is built to take over. It suggests ideas based on what's working in your niche, writes a script in your words, and your AI twin records the Reel with subtitles, a cover and music. Then you either publish right away or put it on a schedule, and WowFlō posts it to Instagram for you. You connect the account once. See how it works on the Instagram scheduler page.

Whether you use the free native tools or something more automated, the goal is the same: a steady stream of Reels without your week revolving around Instagram. If you want a full week of Reels made and scheduled in one sitting, try WowFlō. The first generation is free, no card required.

FAQ

Can I schedule Reels on Instagram for free?

Yes. The Instagram app lets you schedule Reels for free from a public account, and Meta Business Suite is also free. Instagram's limits are up to 25 scheduled posts a day and up to 30 days in advance.

Why can't I see the option to schedule a Reel?

Instagram's Help Center says you need a public account to schedule content, so a private account won't see the option. Also note that features like collaborative posts, product tagging and sponsored posts aren't compatible with scheduled content, so publish those Reels manually.

Where do I find my scheduled Reels?

Go to your profile, tap Menu in the top right, and under Your insights and tools tap Scheduled content. You can also tap Create, choose Reel, then tap Scheduled. From there you can edit, reschedule, delete or share a Reel right away.

Do scheduled Reels get less reach than Reels posted manually?

Instagram hasn't said that scheduled Reels are treated differently, and we haven't seen an official source suggesting it. What affects reach is the content itself and whether your audience is online when it goes live, so schedule for the times your followers are active.
